Parent Carers (Carers in Herts)Carers in Hertfordshire is the leading charity in Herts for unpaid carers looking after a loved one, friend, neighbour or relative due to their illness, frailty mental health needs, disability or substance misuse.

Caring is tough. It can be tough physically and financially - but of course it is usually also emotionally and psychologically tough helping someone you lovfe cope with an illness that all to often is progressive.

Earlier this year Carers in Hertfordshire carried out a survey. These are some of the results:

  • more than half of Hertfordshire carers have not had a Carer's Assessment - meaning that many may be missing iut on support to which they are entitled.
  • just over a third said that their caring role was harder than it had been a year ago
  • 58% are caring for 50 hours a week or more
  • a quarter of carers reported missing their own health appointment - or not being able to make one - because of their caring role
