New Year's Resolutions - Here's an Idea: Why not Help the Liberal Democrats?

The Local Elections for Dacorum Borough Council will be held on Thursday, 2nd May, 2019

In 2018 the Liberal Democrats enjoyed our best district council election results in 15 years. We took control of councils like South Cambridgeshire, Kingston-upon-Thames and Richmond-upon-Thames from the Conservatives. In Watford and in Three Rivers - Liberal Democrat controlled districts bordering onto Dacorum - they made further progress.

The Liberal Democrats also won here in Dacorum, with Cllr Lara Pringle being elected in Northchurch in March 2018.

The Liberal Democrats currently hold five seats on Dacorum Borough Council - see pic.

LD DBC Group 2018In 2019 over 9,000 council seats and the control of councils all around the country will be in the balance. So it's a huge chance for Lib Dems to build on these local successes. Having more Lib Dem Councillors makes a real difference for the communities we represent.

Liberal Democrat Councillors in Dacorum are Active, Caring and Effective. In Hemel throughout 2018 some of the things our local Councillors have done, as the Opposition front bench, include:

Motions to Council on inserting a Green Environmental Backbone to the new Local Plan being developed by Dacorum; planning for the effects of Brexit on services and local EU nationals, and calling for funding to enable local NHS emergency services to be kept open 24hrs.

The Liberal Democrat Group challenges the Conservative administration at Council meetings on topics such as stretched resources, strategic planning for leisure facilities, recycling, domestic abuse training, adventure playgrounds and parking problems. They are calling for more openness in council plans and decisions.

They want to see more Liberal Democrat Councillors elected in May 2019 - and this is how you can help make it happen:

Join the local party - we're a nice bunch, environmentally concerned and practical about getting Dacorum run better. Join here

Volunteer some of your time to knock on some doors, deliver some leaflets or contribute in a myriad of other ways to help our candidates win. You don't have to be physically energetic - we need indoor people too!

Stand for election as a Liberal Democrat councillor on Dacorum Borough Council. Councillors have the chance to make a real difference every day for people in their community.

Donate to the local party. The Liberal Democrats rely on small donations from individuals like you. They've never had the Big Business or trade union cash the other parties can count on, especially at a local level. You can do it online, on this site. Thank you.

Any questions about volunteering contact myself on 07809 679744 adrian@hhlibdems.org.uk or the West Herts Lib Dems Membership Officer on 01442 866650 or on nickholl1945@btinternet.com (click)

Let's run Dacorum better together!

Happy New Year!

Cllr Adrian England and Nick Hollinghurst
