Christopher Side - a Husband, Family Man, Doctor and Friend to Many

May 21, 2020 3:10 PM
Chris SideCHRISTOPHER SIDE.
It is with great sadness that I pass on this news from his wife, Sarah.
Chris's passing was peaceful, for which we are all thankful, and he died at home early in the morning of the 19th May - on his 73rd birthday. I am so sad to have lost such a good friend.
He was such a quiet, thoughtful, brave and caring man and a very good doctor. I often think that I'm probably only here now because he picked up my hypertension 30+ years ago. And I reminded him of that more than once.
I had huge respect and affection for Chris, an engaged (and engaging), liberal and tolerant man who cared deeply about others and did what he could to help nudge things along in a more pro-social direction.
Chris had been a long-standing Liberal Democrat and before that in the SDP. I knew him for 40 years during which he was my GP for many years and I will miss him very much.
Sarah writes,
"I am heart-broken to post that my beloved husband, Chris Side, passed away peacefully at home early this morning, after a long illness.
His care at the threatened Mount Vernon Cancer Centre has been of the highest order and we have also been fortunate to receive support from the Hospice of St Francis (Berkhamsted) and Rennie Grove Hospice. Without their compassionate help Chris would not have been able to be at home, which was his long held wish. I am eternally grateful."
